London 2012: Closing Thoughts Stuck
Posted on August 14, 2012 at 03:21 AM.

It doesn't seem that long ago in which we were celebrating the Summer Games of 2008. Sure, it was four years ago, but those years flew by and before we know it we'll be talking about the 2016 Games in Rio de Janiero.

As individuals, we all take away something different from the Olympics. Personally, the best moments for me included seeing Mexico beat Brazil for the gold in men's soccer as well as USA taking the gold over Japan in women's soccer.

The local story here in Redondo Beach, CA was Sean Rosenthal and his quest to medal in beach volleyball with teammate Jake Gibb. They were upset early in the knockout round and finished fifth -- the same place they finished at Beijing in 2008.

There was of course the brilliant smile and performance by Gabby Douglas, as well as a triumphant end to the career of a great Olympian in Michael Phelps.

Team USA's basketball team overcame a tough first half by Spain to win another gold medal for a team that many believe could beat the original Dream Team.

Of course there were tears of joy and disappointment spanning from the United States (104 medals) to Saudi Arabia (1 medal) as well as within every participating country in between.

These examples are just a drop in the bucket of the accomplishments and story lines London brought to us this year. And what a wonderful job the city did in hosting the world.

Everything from the opening and closing ceremonies to the games themselves ran as fluid as could be. Everyone involved in preparing for the Olympics this year should be proud for what they have accomplished.

It's sad to see the Olympics end, but we all know how fast four years seem to fly by nowadays.

On to Brazil...

Enjoyed the gymnastics more than I ever have before.

And watching our local kid, Galen Rupp win silver against all those Kenyans and Ethiopians in the 10k was pretty damn special.

I just enjoy having the Olympics on in the background during the summer. It's just a fun event.

It's a funny thought though that going into the games Michael Phelps looked like he wanted NO part of anything and at the end of it all he seemed like he loved the games.
Ryan Lochte had trained way harder than Phelps and looked determined to dethrone him from the beginning. And he did at first but by the end of everything he seemed more interested in using these games as a way to find a new girlfriend.
I dunno.

Now I just can't wait for that Olympic video game to do these justice!
Here's to Rio: 2016 (with hopefully a new career mode!!)

The olympics were absolutly amazing this year and im so sad to see them go. I must say I enjoyed almost all the sports from gymnastics to taekwondo, it is just awesome to watch the best of the best compete for themselves and their countries. Also, Bill Simmons latest article got me really wanting to go to the next games. I know I probably wont be able to pull it off but he essentially said theyre is nothing like attending the olympic games and it was one of the greatest experiences of his life. Rio 2016, hurry up please!
